Yay! I'm glad you like them; I'm really glad I discovered them.

I've actually been listening to Qntal more recently-- their third (Tristan and Isolde), fourth (Ozymandias) and fifth (The Silver Swan) albums are especially nice, and more on the softer/atmospheric side of things, with medieval/Renaissance lyrics/melodies and some well-devised electronic textures in the background.

Based on your criteria, my tastes, and what I like about Sythyry, I'd recommend Steve Reich's Tehillim. It's got an odd combination of age and energy.

I'd also suggest any of a number of Philip Glass pieces, especially Powaqqatsi and Satyagraha, though that's more based on my taste than what I think of Sythyry. They're what I tend to work to.

I liked the recommendation of Carl Jenkins' music, and am buying a couple of his CDs cheap: "Songs of Sanctuary" and "Imagined Oceans". Will check out the chanting one.

My musical taste is pretty limited; I've got a bunch of video game music and nostalgic remixes of it from OCRemix, plus some ordinary popular stuff like Michael Jackson, Matchbox Twenty, plus some abstract/world stuff like Tangerine Dream, BT, and Spanish guitar. Trying to get into some classy classical music, but much of it is boring after so many years hearing catchy Japanese game music from "Chrono Trigger" and the like.
